Professional Angler:
Fishing the BASS WBT, Headturners3
Tour and Guiding on Lake Okeechobee
Angie Douthit entered the realm of professional fishing and
quickly learned that you would need major sponsorship if you were to
succeed in the sport. Fishing a professional bass tour costs lots of
money in travel expense, equipment and entry fees.
By working hard to promote the products she was using and had
confidence in, she became noticed by the manufactures as someone
that could help them bring product to the many anglers around the
country.
Angie realized that as a new angler on the professional tour, she
would have to work hard to be noticed. Just winning tournaments
would not produce sponsorship. She has now became a fixture at major
sport shows and outdoor events.
Outdoor writers have found the attractive angler more than
willing to help them develop material and photos for their work.
This has resulted in her appearing in many publications and
television shows, bringing her sponsors valuable exposure.
Angie loves the sport of bass fishing and even more, loves to
help others to learn how much fun it can be. Her ability and
willingness to teach others has produced a profitable guide service
that fills most days she isn't on tour or making an appearance. Whether you wish to try
your luck with artificial lures or the proven method using wild gold
shiners, Angie will see to it that you have a super great day on the
water.
Her sponsors include Champion Boats, Mercury Marine, Bass Pro
Shops, Berkley, Cavitron Lures, MegaStrike fish attractant,
Lure-Eyes, Tampa-based Bob's Machine Shop and Gene Larew Tackle.

Professional Angler, Angie Douthit
Angie Douthit started off on the Women's Bass Tour with two Top 6
finishes. After a pause for surgery, Angie came right back to finish
the year in the upper ranks.
VACATION LEADS TO FISHING CAREER FOR
ANGLER ON THE MERCURY MARINE WOMEN’S BASSMASTER TOUR PRESENTED BY
TRITON BOATS
CELEBRATION, Fla. – A former small-business entrepreneur who visited
Florida on vacation eventually moved to the state, fell in love with
both bass fishing and her fishing guide, and now is poised to fish
the Mercury Marine Women’s Bassmaster Tour presented by Triton
Boats.
Angie Douthit, of Clewiston, Fla. was living and working in Ohio
when a friend invited her on a Florida vacation. Among their
excursions, the women hired a fishing guide to tour Lake Okeechobee.
The guide, Chet Douthit, an eight-time CITGO Bassmaster Classic
qualifier and two-time BASS winner, filled the day with fun and
excitement as they caught bass after bass.
So pleased with the experience, Angie returned to Florida the
following year and again hired Chet as a tour guide. She soon fell
in love with both the guide and the sport he began teaching her. In
2001, Chet and Angie married and she continued her crash course in
bass fishing.
“Chet’s a great teacher. He’s so knowledgeable and fished BASS for
more than 25 years,” Angie said. “It also helps to live in a part of
the country where we can fish year-round.”
One year into their marriage, the Douthits bought a boat solely for
Angie, who improved her boating abilities and secured a captain’s
license. “We knew it wasn’t going to work with one boat, with him
guiding and fishing tournaments and me wanting to take the boat at
the same time,” she said.
Harnessing her competitive spirit, Douthit entered local fishing
tournaments, winning a sportsman of the year award in 2002. She then
started fishing BASS, competing in eight tournaments between 2003
and 2005 and finishing sixth in the women’s tour preview event in
October 2005. Douthit led on Day 1 of that tournament with 15
pounds, 6 ounces of bass.
Douthit said her biggest accomplishment to date was winning a
$50,000 paycheck and the ability to create her own television show
pilot. Douthit won these items when she appeared on a Canadian
reality show, called “Last Cull”, featuring 50 competing anglers .
Douthit also is a fishing guide now, working primarily on Lake
Okeechobee with her husband. She said the majority of her customers
are repeats. “They like the fact that I can put them on fish,” she
said.
These are but a few of Angie's accomplishments.
